How To correctly disassemble Epson Stylus SX510W printer

Step 1 - Scanner Ass'y

  • Open the connections cover (where the usb/rj45 plugs are located). Remove the screw, lift up the plastic where the screw was and pull towards the rear of the printer, it should come out quickly.
  • Pull out of the connector the white flat cable going to the scanner and detach it as it's adhesive-taped to the chassis; then detach also the 4-wire connector that goes to the scanner.
  • Remove the black screw on top left corner and the silver screw on top right corner (it's in a hole). Lift the scanner assembly and put it apart.

Step 2 - Control panel Ass'y

This is cheating! I broke the hooks doing it in the wrong manner The control panel assy is fitted with no screws but with bayonnet-like hooks. So it has to slide. Slide is prevented with teeth near the LCD.

  • Lift the LCD up, it has to stay in vertical position.
  • Take the lcd with your hand, thumb over the top, three fingers on its bottom (the fifth finger is optional =) ).
  • Bring the LCD back a bit, just a bit before the “click” of its vertical position. Gently push in a way that the part of the control panel that is near the lcd is lifted up a bit.
  • With the other hand slide the control panel towards the front of the printer, if it doesn't move it is still blocked and so push a little more in the previous point.
  • It should be removed easily this way, then detach the short :!: flex cable that is going to the mainboard.

Step 3 - Top cover

  • Now all the screws should be visible. The are hooks also between the main cover and the lower cover, a plastic thin tool should be useful if slided between the two covers to unlock the hooks. If you broke these hooks it is not so catastrophic as there are still the screws.

Step 4 - Bottom cover

  • If you want to remove, for example, the ink nozzle cleaning ass'y, then you have also to remove lower part of plastic cover, actually pulling printer scheleton out of its skin.
  • First remove SD/MMC card plastic cover, there's a screw inside bottom and a hook at the top.
  • Remove the several screws at the four corners.

Ink nozzle cleaning ass'y

  • Follow steps 1-4
  • Open the back little door. Free the two pipes simply pulling them out of the transparent plastic device.
  • Remove the screw that is horizontally positioned in front of the cleaning pad.
  • Now there's a hook at the side, you should be able to unlock it simply with your finger.
  • Slide the ass'y to the right side of the printer just a bit then you should be able to remove it, including the pump and mechanisms.

Ink Nozzles

  • Follow steps 1-3. Step 4 is optional, if I remember well.
  • Remove cartdriges if present.
  • Remove right side plastic cover, a small hook has to be lifted and it's enough.
  • Detach flat cable from the back-fucking-ink-chip-sense-pcb (I hate it).
  • Remove back-fucking-ink-chip-sense-assy. Two small hooks are located left and right, you should push them from outside to inside with a small screwdriver, then pull up the assy.
  • Now remove the small plastic cover located under the cartdriges, i don't remember well, there should be a small hook somewhere.
  • Now 3 screws are visible, remove them and you'll free the nozzles block.
  • Lift up the nozzles block and detach the large flat cable.
